Programme Structure

  • Students have to complete the part-time postgraduate study of 25 credit units over two years. One credit unit is equivalent to approximately 13 tuition hours. A research project is required which accounts for 8 credit units.

  • The programme covers a core programme of bioethics, bioinformatics, presentation and communication skills, measurement of uncertainty, biostatistics, quality assurance, laboratory accreditation, laboratory safety, laboratory management, frontiers in sciences, laboratory technology, immunology, genetics, gene expression and regulation, a specialty programme of anatomical pathology, haematology and transfusion science, chemical pathology or clinical microbiology, and a research project.  Students are encouraged to make use of existing materials in their home laboratories for the project.  Special technology consideration will be given for projects that require and material not available in their home laboratories.
  • Study modules are normally assessed by coursework and written examination.
